“You Can’t Take It with You”

So they say

but now God

in His? Her? Their?

holiest omnicaprice

has made a huge u-turn

in accepted charnel policy:

you can take it with you!

So pack my favourite books,

stack my desert island discs,

rack my comfortable clothes –

stash all my treasured photos,

cache all journals, poems, art –

stow the laptop, phone, kindle,

throw in all essential devices –

bag every madeleine-memory,

flag each truly resonant object,

tag everything I have loved.

But while thanking God

in His? Her? Their?

omnifickleness,

I look around

and see it all

here & now:

in this nest.

This must

surely be

heaven.
